Denton – On Saturday, April 3, CASA of Caroline kicked off its annual Pinwheels For Prevention campaign as part of Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. Elected officials and members of the community joined CASA volunteers, staff and board members to “plant” blue and silver pinwheels in the Denton Community Garden and raise awareness of child abuse and its prevention. Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention because they represent the happy, carefree childhoods all kids deserve. This year’s pinwheels were sponsored by Denton Rotary, Purple Peake, and Caroline County State’s Attorney Joe Riley. The Caroline County Commissioners showed their support by lighting the courthouse with blue lights. Thanks to the generosity of our pinwheel sponsors, the entire Caroline County community was able to show their support by creating pinwheel gardens and displays at their homes and place of business. Several local police departments, including the Caroline County Sheriff, created displays, as did community partners Choptank Transport and Community Club of Preston. CCPS students colored pinwheels to fill the CASA of Caroline office windows. There was also an interactive calendar full of daily suggestions to raise awareness and prevent child abuse. CASA of Caroline would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who supported this campaign – every person who planted or colored a pinwheel or in some way contributed to our efforts to raise awareness and put an end to child abuse. Thank you for helping us “Change a Child’s Story”!
